Madagascar visa FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about the Madagascar visa and e-visa: price, duration, airport, passport and steps.
Do you need a visa to travel to Madagascar?
Yes. All foreign travellers must obtain a Madagascar visa, including French, British, US and Canadian citizens. It is obtained online (e-visa) or at the airport counter on arrival.
What is the price of the Madagascar visa?
Official visa fees depend on the duration: €30 up to 15 days, €35 from 16 to 30 days, €40 from 31 to 60 days and €50 from 61 to 90 days (2026 scale). Through our assistance service, an all-inclusive rate applies (€89 to €109 by duration).
Is there a 90-day Madagascar visa?
Yes. The tourist e-visa exists in a 61 to 90 days version, for a maximum stay of three months, single entry. It is the longest tourist format.
Can you get a Madagascar visa at the airport?
Yes, a visa on arrival is issued at international airports (Ivato in Antananarivo, Nosy Be) on presentation of the passport, return ticket and payment of fees. The online e-visa is still recommended to avoid queues.
What passport validity is required?
Your passport must be valid at least 6 months after your arrival date in Madagascar and have at least 2 blank pages.
Does the e-visa allow multiple entries?
No, it is a single-entry visa. If you leave the territory and wish to return, a new Madagascar e-visa application online is required.
How long does it take to get the e-visa?
Allow 48 to 72 h after a complete file. It is recommended to submit the application at least 7 days before departure, otherwise it may be refused.
Do children need a visa?
Yes, every traveller has their own Madagascar e-visa, whatever their age: babies, children and teenagers included. A minor's application is made by a parent or legal guardian.
Are there visa-free countries for Madagascar?
In practice no: almost no nationality is exempt. Only Burundi and Palestine cannot use the e-visa or visa on arrival and must go through an embassy.
Is the tourist visa transformable (TREDI)?
No. The tourist visa up to 90 days is not transformable into a long-stay permit. To work, study, reside or invest, you must apply for a transformable long-stay visa (TREDI) through consular services.
